DIY: Tea Display

Yes, I hear you thinking. What the heck is a tea display?
Well, let me tell you the story behind it.
In August my grandma turned 80! So there was a celebration planned and my sister, brother-in-law and I always give a gift together. Because it's such a milestone, 80 years, we wanted to give something  special.
My gran always drinks tea and she always drinks one kind of tea. So we wanted to give her 80 teabags of this flavour.
But giving 80 teabags in a box is a little boring, don't you think?
So while brainstorming on how we would give it, I saw this blog post on A Cup of Life (It's in Dutch, but it's a great blog, check it out!).
So if you replace those photo's with teabags, then you've got a tea display. It's fun to give as a gift, but you could also use it to show the flavours of tea you have in your collection.
It's not at all difficult to make, but I'll show you step by step how to make it.

What you need

• Picture frame
• cotton thread
• small nails & a hammer
• cloth pins
• super glue
• and ofcourse teabags

Step by step
1. Find a good place to hammer nails into the frame. I did it on the back of the frame. Mark where you want the nails, make sure it's on both sides on about the same height.
2. Put the cloth pins on a cotton thread.
3. Hammer the nails in the frame, do this carefully to not split or damage the frame (or yourself). Then knot the thread around it and cut off the end short. To make sure the knot doesn't come loose, I've added a drop of superglue to it.
4. If you don't want the cloth pins to move along the thread, you can add a little thread over the pin (see the worksheet below) and knot it on both sides. When it's in the right place, you add a drop of super glue. But make sure you only glue the knot and not the cloth pin (guess what I did...).
5. Hang the teabags. I've added some crocheted flowers, you can find the patterns here, here, here and here (instructions in Dutch).

Ja, ik hoor je denken. Wat is een theerek nou weer?
Nou, ik zal je het verhaal erachter vertellen.
In augustus werd mijn oma 80 jaar! Daarvoor was een feestje gepland en mijn zus, zwager en ik geven altijd samen een cadeau. Omdat dit zo'n mijlpaal was, 80 jaar, wilden we iets speciaals geven.
Mijn oma drinkt altijd thee en ze drinkt altijd één smaakje thee. Dus we wilden haar 80 theezakjes van die smaak geven.
Maar gewoon 80 theezakjes in een doosje is een beetje saai, niet?
Dus toen ik aan het brainstormen was over een leuke manier om het te geven, zag ik deze blogpost van A Cup of Life (erg leuke blog, je moet echt ff gaan kijken!).
En als je bij dit idee de foto's verwisselt voor theezakjes, heb je dus een theerekje. Het is leuk om cadeau te geven, maar je kunt 'm bijvoorbeeld ook thuis gebruiken om de smaakjes in je theecollectie te showen.
Het is erg makkelijk te maken, ik zal je stap voor stap laten zien hoe.

Benodigdheden

• fotolijst(je)
• katoenen draad
• kleine spijkertjes & een hamer
• wasknijpers
• secondelijm
• en natuurlijk theezakjes

Stap voor stap
1. Zoek een goed plekje op de lijst om de spijktertjes in te hameren. Ik heb gekozen voor de achterkant van de lijst. Markeer waar je de spijkertjes wilt, zorg dat dit op beide kanten van de lijst ongeveer even hoog zit.
2. Doe de wasknijpers aan de draad.
3. Hamer de spijktertjes in de lijst, doe dit voorzichtig zodat je de lijst niet splijt of beschadigt (of jezelf). Knoop dan de draad eromheen en knip het uiteinde kort af. Om te zorgen dat deze niet meer loslaat, doe je er een drupje secondelijm op.
4. Als je niet wilt dat de wasknijpers over de draad kunnen bewegen, kun je een klein draadje over de wasknijper heen doen (zie de worksheet) en die aan beide kanten vast te knopen. Doe ook hier weer een drupje secondelijm op. Maar zorg er hierbij voor dat je alleen de knoopjes vastlijmt en niet de knijper (drie keer raden wat ik deed...).
5. En dan kun je de theezakjes eraan knijpen. Ik heb nog wat gehaakte bloemen op de lijst geplakt, de patronen hiervan vindt je hier, hier, hier en hier
