What's in my Bag?

 

You might think 'what's so interesting about the contents of someone's bag?'
Or maybe you're here because your curious what I carry always carry with me everywhere I go?

I've just realised that everything I carry with me are in some way favorites of mine. And what you always carry with you, tells a lot about who you are.
That's exactly the reason why I like to take a peak into someone elses bag.

So today I'm giving you a peak inside mine with all the products I love.

What's inside:
- My wallet. It's made from dark brown leather and it still looks great. I think I've had this one for more than 5 years now. The only downside is that coins tend to slip out when I open the zipper...
- I hardly ever leave the house without handcream. I'm a true addict, I admit it. My favorite is the one from Nivea with macadamia in it. So soft!
- Another must is my lipbalm, especially in the winter. I always use Labello Hydro Care, because it's always soft and easy to apply.
- A girl with long hair always carries an elastic hairband with her.
- And without glass wipes I wouldn't see a thing after a while.
- My mobile phone, where would I be without it. Not that I'm glued to my phone, but without it I feel a bit lost.
- Ah, yes. Notebooks. You've read it a few weeks ago: I collect them and always have a few in use. I always have a small notebook with me to scribble down to do-lists or ideas.
- And what's the use of a notebook without a pen? So I always carry a pen with me, preferably my favorite pens from HEMA.

And for those who wonder where I got that nice bag? I bought it at the Camden Lock Markets in London, but you can find these kind of bags in many places these days.

Misschien denk je wel: wat is er zo interessant aan de inhoud van iemands tas?
Of misschien ben je hier omdat je nieuwsgierig bent naar wat ik altijd me me meeneem?

Ik realiseerde me pas dat alles wat ik met me meeneem op een bepaalde manier mijn favorieten zijn. En wat je altijd met je meeneemt, zegt denk ik best veel over wie je bent.
Dat is ook precies de reden waarom ik het leuk vind om te zien wat er in andermans tas zit.

Dus vandaag krijg je een kijkje in de mijne met alle producten waar ik zo van houd.

What's inside:
- Mijn portemonnee. Hij is gemaakt van donkerbruin leer en hij zit er nog super mooi uit. Ik denk dat ik deze al meer dan vijf jaar gebruik nu. Het enige nadeel eraan is dat er nog wel eens muntje uit willen rollen als ik de rits open doe...
- Ik ga bijna nooit het huis uit zonder handcreme. Ik ben echt verslaafd, ik geef het toe. Mijn favoriete handcreme is die van Nivea met macadamia erin. Heerlijk zacht!
- Een andere must have is mijn lippenbalsem, vooral in de winter. Ik gebruik altijd Labello Hydro Care, omdat die altijd zacht is en makkelijk aan te brengen.
- Een meisje met lang haar neemt altijd een haarelastiekje mee.
- En zonder mijn brillenpoetsdoekjes zou ik na een tijdje niks meer kunnen zien.
- Mijn mobiele telefoon, waar zou ik zijn zonder. Niet dat ik aan m'n telefoon vast zit gelijmd, maar zonder voel ik me toch een beetje verloren.
- Ah, ja. Notitieboekjes. Zoals je een paar weken geleden hebt kunnen lezen, verzamel ik ze en heb ik er altijd een paar in gebruik. In mijn tas neem ik altijd een klein boekje mee om to do-lijstjes of ideeen op te schrijven.
- En wat heb je aan een notitieboekje zonder pen? Ik neem dus altijd een paar pennen mee, het liefst m'n favoriete pennen van de HEMA.

En mocht je het willen weten: de tas heb ik gekocht bij de Camden Lock Markets in Londen, maar dit soort tassen kun je tegenwoordig op veel plekken vinden.

March Diary

Wow, March was a month in which a lot happened. Ups and downs, sunshine and stormy weather.
It was the month of a 5-day holiday with my sister and brother-in-law, celebrating my birthday and enjoying the Spring finding it's way.
But also the month in which my dream was shattered, a week ago I learned that studying in London is not going to happen. Everything was arranged, I just had to subscribe. But then my teacher found out that the university in London doesn't accept students for a study abroad period... It was hard to deal with the first day, but now there's a chance I will be studying in Stockholm. It's not London, but I'm sure I'll be able to create a dream around it. So, fingers crossed that this will be possible...
Besides all this I've been working on a new website! Yes, this blog is going to have it's own URL, it's own space on the world wide webs. I hope I'll be able to finish it in April and release it to you!

March started really well, with a holiday to the beach with my sister and brother-in-law. It was quite windy, but the sea is always beautiful. We rented a little cottage from Centerparcs, played games there and cooked some nice meals. The first evening we went out for bowling, which I horribly lost. :)

The second day I unfortunately had to spend most time at school, so we didn't do that much together.

The third day we've all attented a Segway workshop. At first I had a bit trouble with it, but in the end I did quite well. It's pretty fun!

In the afternoon we played a nice game of midgetgolf. They had 18 awesome looking holes with a pirate theme. Good times, although in the picture my face looks a bit worried.

The fourth day we rented bikes and cycled through the dunes and beautiful nature.

 We even made some friends! :)
To be honest: this was a bit scary. We met a pack of about 6 of these on the middle of our road... Luckily we didn't get eaten. ;)

The last day we packed our bags and on our way back home we visited a history museum and had dinner. A nice finish of a lovely holiday.

Getting home after a holiday is always nice, especially if I had to miss my Mexy for a few days. She came to sleep right next to me with her cute little face. 

And this was my birthday. It was in the middle of my exams week, so unfortunately there wasn't much celebrating. But ordering fresh sushi for dinner made it a bit more festive.

The weekend before I celebrated it with my parents and grandmothers/ And in April I will celebrate it with my sister and some friends.

Just before my birthday I planted some vegetables and a few days ago there were already some green leaves showing, yay!

And to finish the month, I've treated myself to a lovely yoghurt with cookies, chocolate, kiwi and honey from the Yoghurt Barn, and later on I ordered some Chai tea. Yum!

Crafts: I haven't done so much this month, just a few rows on my chevron blanket...
Books: Thursday's Children by Nicci French and started reading Labor Day by Joyce Maynard.
Movies/series: Mostly Dutch tv shows. And last week I gifted myself one month of Netflix, so now I'm watching all seasons of Once Upon a Time.

Favorite moment: the holiday, celebrating my birthday and passing all my exams again.

Suckiest moment: goodbye dream of studying in London...

What Do You Collect?

Wauw, maart was een maand waarin er heel veel gebeurd is. Ups en downs, zonneschijn en storm.
Het was een maand waarin ik 5 dagen vakantie vierdemet mijn zus en zwager, ik mijn verjaardag vierde en genoot van de eerste tekenen van de lente.
Maar helaas ook de maand waarin een droom in stukken spatte. Een week geleden kreeg ik te horen dat het studeren in Londen niet doorgaat... Alles was tot zover geregeld, ik hoefde me alleen nog in te schrijven. Maar een docent kwam erachter dat de universiteit in Londen geen studenten aanneemt voor een studieperiode... Dat was wel even een moeilijk bericht om te verwerken, maar nu kijken we weer vooruit. Er is nu waarschijnlijk de mogelijkheid om in Stockholm te studeren. Het is geen Londen, maar ik weet zeker dat ik rondom Stockholm ook een mooie droom kan bouwen. Fingers crossed dus dat dit door mag gaan.
Verder ben ik deze maand druk bezig geweest met het bouwen aan mijn nieuwe website. Ja! Dit blog krijgt z'n eigen URL, z'n eigen plekje op het wereldwijde web. Ik hoop dat ik het in april allemaal af kan maken en dat de volgende diary op de nieuwe website zal staan!

We begonnen maart goed met een vakantie in Zandvoort aan zee met m'n zus en zwager. Het was behoorlijk winderig, maar de zee is altijd mooi. We huurden een huisje bij Centerparcs. waar we gezellig spelletjes speelden en lekker kookten. De eerste avond gingen we bowlen, wat ik ernstig verloor. :)

De tweede dag moest ik helaas de hele dag naar school, dus we hebben niet veel kunnen doen.

De derde dag namen we deel aan een Segway workshop. In het begin had ik er wat moeite mee, maar al gauw ging 't toch aardig soepel. Erg leuk om te doen!

Die middag hebben we gemidgetgolfd. Op het park waren 18 super leuke holes die waren aangekleed in een piraten-thema. Super leuk, al ziet m'n gezicht er op de foto een beetje bezorgd uit.

De vierde dag huurden we fietsen en gingen we de duinen en prachtige natuur in.

We maakten onderweg zelfs vrienden! :)

Om eerlijk te zijn: dit was best eng. We kwamen een groep van 6 van deze fijne jongens tegen midden op ons fietspad. Gelukkig zijn we niet opgegeten. ;) 

De laatste dag pakten we onze koffertjes weer in en op de terugweg zijn we nog naar het Rijksmuseum der Oudheden geweest en hebben we ter afsluiting lekker wat gegeten. Een mooi einde van een gezellige vakantie.

En na een vakantie is thuiskomen toch ook altijd wel fijn, vooral als ik Mexy heb moeten missen. Ze kwam die avond gezellig naast me slapen met haar lieve koppie.

En dit was m'n verjaardag. Het was middenin m'n tentamenweek, dus helaas was er niet veel feest. Maar verse sushi bestellen maakte het toch wat feestelijker.

Het weekend daarvoor had ik het al gevierd met m'n ouders en oma's. En in april vier ik 't nog met m'n zus en wat vrienden.

Net voor m'n verjaardag plantte ik wat groentezaadjes en een paar dagen geleden kwamen de eerste blaadjes al uit de grond, yay!

En om de maand af te sluiten, trakteerde ik mezelf op een lekkere yoghurt met koekjes, chocolade, kiwi en honing van de Yoghurt Barn en later bestelde ik nog een Chai thee. Yum!

Crafts: Ik heb niet veel gedaan deze maand, alleen een paar rijen van m'n Chevron deken.
Boeken: Thursday's Children van Nicci French en ik begon in Een Lang Weekend van Joyce Maynard.
Films/series: Divorce, Help mijn man is klusser, Danny Lowinsky. En afgelopen week heb ik mezelf een maand Netflix cadeau gedaan en nu ben ik alle seizoenen van Once Upon a Time aan het kijken.

Favoriete moment: op vakantie, m'n verjaardag vieren en gelukkig weer al m'n tentamens gehaald.

Stomste moment: goodbye droom van studeren in London...

What Do You Collect?

Recently I read about collections from people and why they collect it. I think humans are collectors by nature, they sometimes do it without knowing it.
This got me thinking of all the things I collect. I think I collect even more things than I'm aware of.

The one that first came to mind is notebooks and to-do lists. I love to write lists, things I need to remember or ideas that burst into my mind down in a nicely illustrated book. Or one with a lovely pattern. I only use about 3-5 books at a time, so there's a lot of books ready to be used. But when I see a beautiful one, I can't help myself, I just have to buy it.

 And I write these things down with my favorite pens from HEMA. The ones with a little soft grip. They write smoothly and I can write for a long time without hurting my fingers.
My ferret is also a big fan of them, she likes to take them behind my desk and chew on them...
Ok, back to collections. You may wonder why I call these pens a collection. That's because when they are empty, I trash the filling and keep the casing of the pens. I still want to do something with them, something artsy and creative, but I haven't come up with the right idea yet.

Another cllection is tea. Since a few years I started drinking tea and especially the ones with a special flavor. Everything with cinnamon in it is a success with me. In London I've bought some funky flavors at Yumchaa. Flavors like Raspberry Vanilla, mango Sunrise, Chilli Chilli Bang Bang and Red Chai. There's more tea than shown in the picture, but I thought simple teabags wouldn't be that interesting to show. What you see are the crownjewels of my collection.

A real collection I have, one that I keep for the sake of just having it, is the issues of Flow Magazine. I have all editions since the magazine started. But the extention of the collection will stop soon, because I will stop my subscription. I still have 10 editions to read, which shows I don't really have enough time to keep up with all the issues.

You're probably wondering wether there is a creative collection somewhere. Well, I wouldn't be a creative mind if I didn't have one. I have a box where I collect all sorts of papers. Ones with beautifull colors, illustrations and patterns. To hang at my wall or use it for scrapping.
I also, ofcourse, have a big collection of yarns. Much much bigger than the ones you see in the picture. For this year I've made myself promise I wouldn't buy too much new yarn and first work with the yarns I have lying around. Time to clean up a bit!

Pas geleden las ik ergens over wat mensen zoal verzamelen en waarom. Ik denk dat mensen van nature verzamelaars zijn, we doen 't soms zelfs zonder dat we 't door hebben.
Hierdoor ging ik nadenken over wat ik zelf zoal verzamel. Ik denk dat ik meer verzamel dan waar ik me zo 1-2-3 bewust van ben.

De eerste verzameling waar ik aan moest denken zijn notitieboekjes en to-do lijstjes. Ik vind het heerlijk om lijstjes te maken. Dingen die ik nog moet doen of onthouden of ideeen die spontaan in mijn hoofd opkomen schrijf ik het liefst op in een mooi notitieboekje met mooie illustraties of patroontjes. Ik gebruik ongeveer 3-5 boekjes tegelijkertijd, dus er zijn nog genoeg boekjes voor de toekomst. Maar als ik een mooie tegenkom, kan ik mezelf niet stoppen, dan moet ik 'm kopen.

En ik schrijf al deze dingen op met mijn favoriete pennen van de HEMA. Die ene met zo'n zachte grip. Ze schrijven soepel en ik kan er heel lang mee schrijven zonder m'n vingers pijn te doen.
M'n fret is er ook een groot fan van, ze sleept ze mee achter m'n bureau en gaat er daar lekker op liggen kauwen...
Ok, terug naar de verzameling. Je vraagt je misschien af waarom ik die pennen een verzameling noem. Dat is omdat als ze op zijn, ik de vulling weggooi en de pen zelf bewaar. Ik wil er nog steeds iets leuk mee doen, iets kunstigs en creatiefs, maar ik heb nog niet het juiste idee daarvoor gehad.

Een andere verzameling is thee. Sinds een aantal jaar drink ik thee en het liefste thee met een speciaal smaakje. Alles met kaneel erin is eigenlijk wel een succes bij mij. In Londen kocht ik een aantal funky smaakjes bij Yumchaa. Smaakjes als Raspberry Vanilla, mango Sunrise, Chilli Chilli Bang Bang and Red Chai. Ik heb veel meer smaakjes thee dan je op de foto ziet, maar ik dacht dat gewone theezakjes niet heel bijzonder zouden zijn. Wat je hier ziet zijn de kroonjuwelen van mijn collectie.

Een echte verzameling die ik heb, eentje die ik heb gewoon voor het hebben, is de edities van Flow magazine. Ik heb alle edities sinds dat het tijdschrift is begonnen. Maar aan de uitbreiding van die collectie komt binnenkort een einde, omdat ik mijn abonnement ga stoppen. Ik heb nog zo'n 10 edities liggen om te lezen, wat laat zien dat ik eigenlijk niet genoeg tijd heb om ze allemaal te lezen.

Nu vraag je je natuurlijk ook af of ik niet een creatieve verzameling heb. Nou, ik zou geen creatief brein zijn als dat niet zo was. Ik heb een doos vol met allerlei soorten papier. Met mooie kleuren, tekeningen en patroontjes. Om ooit op te hangen of creatief mee te scrappen.
En natuurlijk heb ik ook een grote collectie wolletjes. De verzameling is veel, veel groter dan je op de foto ziet. Voor dit jaar heb ik met mezelf afgesproken dat ik niet teveel nieuwe wolletjes zou kopen en eerst de projecten ga maken met de wol die ik al heb liggen. Tijd om een beetje op te ruimen!

February Diary

February was a month with a lot of time spent studying. A new semester started with a whole new class and preparation-intensive courses. So a lot of time was spent with my nose in the books.
Also, this month was the 55th birthday of the student association I'm a part of. This meant a month filled with awesome activities. Lots of games, special meals, gatherings & fun.
So there's not so much pictures this month.

 For a contest with the student association there was an assignment where we had to buy a Domtorentje, which is a big churc tower in our city. I was smart and bought a chocolate that carries the name Domtorentje. And it was also delicious, yum!

 Mexy was cute as ever. I put her in the basket I have hanging on my wall and she was a bit scared for how wobbly it was. Sweet girl.

 Because the tire of my bike was flat one week, I walked to school on a lovely sunny dat. I ate my lunch in a park & enjoyed the season.

During this walk & luch I especially enjoyed the Spring flowers that are coming out of the ground, as you could have seen last week.

I also made a bit of art. This piece is called 'A Gallaxy of Color' and shows my love for color in my life.

Last weekend my sister and I made a garden basket at a DIY store. We had lots of fun and the result was great!

Crafts: I'm still crocheting on my Chevron blanket and knitting the scarf with the ribbon yarn, not much progression this month.
Books: Waiting for Wednesday by Nicci French.
Movies/series: Wie is de Mol (dutch game program), a lot of it.

Favorite moment: Seeing the first signs of Spring around me.

Suckiest moment: having to spend many many hours to prepare my courses....

This month there will probably be more pictures. This week I'm on holiday (in between the lessons) and in the end of the month it's my birthday. Enjoy March!

Februari was een maand waarin ik veel tijd aan mijn studie moest besteden. Een nieuw semester begon met een hele nieuwe klas en lessen die veel voorbereiding kostten. Dus ik zat vele uren met de neus in de boeken.
Ook deze maand vierden we het 55 jarige bestaan van de studentenvereniging waar ik lid van ben. Dit betekende een maand gvuld met waanzinnige activiteiten. Veel spelletjes, speciale maaltijden, bijeenkomsten & gezelligheid.
Dus deze maand zijn er niet heel veel foto's.

Bij de foto's:
- Voor een spel met de studentenvereniging moesten we een Domtorentje kopen. Ik was slim en kocht een chocolaatje met die naam. En hij was nog lekker ook!
- Mexy was weer schattig als altijd. Ik had haar in mijn hangende basket gezet en al dat gewiebel vond ze maar eng. M'n lieve meisje.
- Door een lekke voorband ben ik op een zonnige dag gaan lopen naar school en heb ik in een park gelunchd. Heerlijk genieten.
- Tijdens bovengenoemde wandeling kwam ik allerlei mooie lentebloemen tegen, zoals je vorige week hebt kunnen lezen.
- Ik maakte ook een kunstwerkje met de naam 'A Galaxy of Color' dat mijn liefde voor kleur laat zien.
- Het laatste weekend maakte ik samen met mijn zusje een kweek-basket bij Karwei. Veel lol en een fijne samenwerking.

Crafts: Ik ben nog steeds aan het haken aan mijn Chevron deken en aan het breien aan de sjaal met lint garen. Niet heel veel vooruitgang deze maand.

Films/series: Wie is de Mol, heel veel WIDM.

Favoriete moment: De eerste tekenen van de lente zien.

Stomste moment: heel veel uur moeten spenderen aan het voorbereiden van mijn lessen....

Komende maand is er waarschijnlijk meer te vertellen. Deze week op vakantie (tussen de lessen door) en aan het eind van de maand mijn verjaardag. Geniet van maart!

Where do I find inspiration?

Inspiration, it's a beautiful word. It's always positive and it's something that enriches your life.

I've been thinking about from which places I get inspiration and I've written it down for you.

I get isnpired by many things and places.

I love to walk around Utrecht, especially the old part of the city. And every time I have to chose where to go, I look around an pick the street that looks most interesting or one I've never set foot in before. There's always things that surprise you or catch your eye. + Wandering around empties your mind and makes space for new thoughts.

The same ofcourse counts for other big cities, especially with an old historic part. Like Amsterdam, Den Haag, Haarlem and ofcourse London.
Oh, and always bring a notebook and pen with you to write down all amazing ideas that pop up into your head!

Or I walk around stores like IKEA, craft stores, the art & craft section of warehouses and stationery stores. I could wander around for hours. And in case of IKEA I treat myself to some Swedish meatballs after. Also very inspiring. :)

If I want to find inspiration closer to home, I browse through magazines (Flow Magazine is my favorite), a few of my favorite blogs or I scroll through Pinterest. About Pinterest, it's a great idea to see from who you repin most and then see who that person is following. That might lead you to a whole new source of ideas.

But some things are very important to keep in mind when you're looking for inspiration:

- Don't search for that one thing, be open minded

- Be relaxed, don't stress about it. Inspiration for whatever will find you at the right time and place

- And as you can see from the downloadable quote above: Sometimes not looking for inspiration is the best way to get inspired. Inspiration can and will strike you in any place you're not searching for it. Be prepared to be surprised.

Inspiratie, wat een mooi woord. het is altijd positief en het is iets dat je leven verrijkt.
Ik heb nagedacht over waar ik mijn inspiratie vandaan haal en heb het allemaal opgeschreven.

Ik vind inspiratie in veel dingen en op allerlei plekken.
Ik vind het heerlijk om door Utrecht te lopen, vooral het oude gedeelte van de stad. En elke keer als ik moet kiezen waar ik heen ga, kijk ik om me heen en kies ik de straat die er het interessantst uitziet of eentje waarin ik nog nooit een stap gezet heb. Er is altijd wel iets wat je verrast of wat je aandacht trekt. + Rondstruinen maakt je hoofd leeg, zodat er ruimte is voor nieuwe gedachten.
Hetzelfde geldt natuurlijk voor andere grotere steden, vooral als ze een historisch gedeelte hebben. Zoals Amsterdam, Den Haag, Haarlem en natuurlijk Londen.
Oh, vergeet niet om altijd een notitieboekje en pen mee te nemen om je geniale ideeën in op te schrijven als ze in je brein opkomen!
Of ik loop door winkels als IKEA, craft stores, de creatieve afdeling van warenhuizen en boekhandels. Ik kan er uren rondhangen. En in het geval van IKEA trakteer ik mezelf daarna graag op een portie zweedse balletjes. Ook erg inspirerend. :)
Als ik op zoek ben naar inspiratie dichter bij huis, dan blader ik door tijdschriften (Flow Magazine is mijn favoriet), lees ik een paar van mijn favoriete blogs of scroll ik een tijdje door Pinterest heen. Over Pinterest gesproken, het is een goed idee om eens te kijken van wie je nou de meeste plaatjes repint en kijk dan wie deze persoon zelf volgt. Zo heb je heel veel bronnen met ideeën die je kunt aanboren.

Een aantal zaken zijn in het bijzonder belangrijk om in gedachten te houden als je op zoek bent naar inspiratie:
- Ga niet op zoek naar dat ene ding, houd je geest open
- Ontpan, ga niet lopen stressen. Inspiratie voor wat dan ook zal jou vinden op het juiste moment en de juiste plaats
- En zoals je in de quote hierboven kunt lezen: soms is het niet op zoek gaan naar inspiratie, de beste manier om inspiratie te vinden. Inspiratie kan en zal je vinden op elke plek waar je er niet naar zoekt. Wees bereid om verrast te worden.

January Diary

January, the first month of 2015.
It started with learning for my exams, taking the exams and yes, passing them! Yay!
Besides those exams there was no school for this girl this month. So, that means, a lot of time to spend on the blog & etsy shop. With the help of Mayi Carles' Free 5 Day Life is Messy Challenge I've set goals for this year, found out my super powers and envisioned what I want my future to look like. With these basics I've planned bigger tasks throughout the year and cut them up in smaller pieces to tackle each month. It's really been a big help. A must for any blogger or creative business owner.
Enough talking, time for some pics!

Let's start with a picture of the cutest ferret on this planet (although I might be a little biased).

In January I started another challenge, I'll be doing a writing exercise every day, some just for fun and others will turn into blog post. This exercise was particularly fun. I had to take a book, open it somewhere and blindly point at a sentence. This sentence were the starting words of a story I had to write with it. At first I was scared, but it turned out great!

I also received another Christmas hamper, a little late though. But it was a lovely one, lots of fairtrade products, a lovely olive wood cutting board and a cookbook with little bitesize recipes.

I made some crocheted hearts for Valentine's Day. In the webshop you can buy sets of crocheted hearts and cards with a crocheted heart on them.

During this month I made several walks, also when the snow came falling down. The poor mailman still had to do it's job...

I love when it's been snowing, how the snow rests on the branches of trees. Especially the tree in front of my room.

I made a piece of decoration for my mom. Very easy to make, a DIY will be on the blog in some time.

On the last Saturday of the month my mom and me made a little wooden house at a workshop from a DIY store. Really love it!

Crafts: I finally started crocheting on a blanket for myself, but that project has already been on hold again. I'm currently knitting a scarf with a ribbon kind of yarn.
Books: Tuesday's Gone is finished. I now started in Waiting for Wednesday by Nicci French.
Movies/series: Wie is de Mol (dutch game program), Men in Black 3, The Help, Jackie.

Favorite moment: having a looooot of time to spend on my blog and webshop and purchasing my own domain name!

Suckiest moment: there actually wasn't really a bad moment. Really enjoyed January!

Januari, de eerste maand van 2015.
Het begon met leren voor m'n tentamens, tentamens maken en ja, tentamens halen. Yay!
Naast deze tentamens was er weinig school voor deze meid in januari. Dus, dat betekent veel tijd om aan de blog en etsy shop te besteden. Met de hulp van Mayi Carles' gratis '5 Day Life is Messy Challenge' heb ik doelen gesteld voor dit jaar, m'n super powers ontdekt en schreef ik een visie voor waar ik in de toekomst wil zijn. Met deze basis heb ik grotere taken door het hele jaar gepland en ze opgedeeld in kleinere stukjes waar ik elke maand mee bezig kan. Het heeft me erg geholpen, een must voor elke blogger en eigenaar van een creatieve business.
Genoeg geklets, tijd voor foto's!

Bij de foto's:

- Laten we beginnen met een foto van het liefste fretje van deze planeet (al ben ik wel een beetje bevooroordeeld...)

- In januari begon ik een andere uitdaging. Ik begon met elke dag een schrijfopdracht te doen, sommigen voor de leuk en sommigen eindigen als een blog post hier. De opdracht op deze foto was bijzonder leuk. Ik moest een boek pakken, die ergens openslaan en blind een zin aanprikken. Deze zin was het begin van een verhaal dat ik verder mocht schrijven. In het begin vond ik 't eng, maar het was uiteindelijk erg leuk!

- Ik ontving nog een kerstpakken (van een bon van m'n werk van 2 jaar geleden, ik had eindelijk een keus gemaakt). Het ws een erg leuk pakket: veel fairtrade producten, een mooie olijfhouten snijplank en een kookboekje met recepten voor kleine hapjes.

- Ik maakte wat gehaakte hartjes voor Valentijnsdag. In de webshop kun je nu sets van gehaakte hartjes en kaarten met gehaakte hartjes kopen.

- De afgelopen maand heb ik ook een aantal wandelingen in de buurt gemaakt, ook als 't gesneeuwd had. De arme postbode moest gewoon z'n werk doen.

- Ik vind het heerlijk als 't gesneeuwd heeft, prachtig hoe de sneeuw op de takken blijft liggen. Vooral op de boom die voor mijn raam staat.

- Ik maakte een decoratie stuk voor m'n moeder. Erg makkelijk om te maken, de DIY komt binnenkort op de blog te staan.

- De laatste zaterdag van deze maand maakten m'n moeder en ik een houten huisje bij een workshop van Karwei. Hij is erg leuk geworden!

Crafts: Ik begon eindelijk aan een gehaakte deken voor mezelf, maar dat project ligt inmiddels alweer aan de kant. Ik ben nu bezig met een gehaakte sjaal met een soort lint-achtig garen.

Books: Tuesday's Gone is uit. Ik ben nu begonnen in Waiting for Wednesday van Nicci French.

Movies/series: Wie is de Mol, Men in Black 3, The Help, Jackie.

Favoriete moment: heeeeeel veel tijd hebben om aan m'n blog en webshop te werken en het aankopen van mijn eigen domeinnaam!

Stomste moment: die waren er eigenlijk niet deze maand. Heerlijk genoten van januari.

Why I Blog

Why do I blog? Good question...
I've aksed myself this question for many times, but I never really found the right answer for it.
Before, I said I blogged because I like to share my creativity and fun things with the world. Later I added that I'd like to inspire people with my creativity and that I wanted to show people that it's not that hard to make things yourself.
All true, but lately I found out the real reason why I blog.
And that is because it's a way to challenge myself, keep doing new things and visit places or events.
By planning blog posts I try to think about new things I like or want to do or learn. My blog motivates me to keep moving and not to let my life just be.
I personally know people who's hobby is gaming. All their free time seems to be taken up by playing games and chatting about it in forums. I hope I don't offend anyone by saying this, but to me that sounds like a bit boring. Ofcourse that's a matter of the point of view, but I'm happy that is not my hobby.
I'm happy that my hobby is blogging and creating products that will put a smile on peoples faces. I love how this keeps my weeks alive, that there's always something to work towards and that it challenges me to keep learning and doing things I wouldn't have done without my blog.

Because of my blog I feel more alive.

Waarom ik blog? Goede vraag...
Ik heb mijzelf diezelfde vraag vele malen gesteld, maar ik vond eigenlijk nooit het goede antwoord.
Voorheen zei ik altijd dat ik blogde omdat ik het leuk vond om m'n creativiteit met de wereld te delen. Later voegde ik hieraan toe dat ik graag mensen wil inspireren en wil laten zien dat het helemaal niet moeilijk is om zelf dingen te maken.
Allemaal waar, maar kort geleden ontdekte ik de echte reden waarom ik blog.
En dat is omdat het bloggen een manier is om mezelf uit te dagen, om nieuwe dingen te blijven doen en leuke plekken en events te bezoeken.
Door het plannen van mijn blogposts bedenk ik leuke nieuwe dingen die ik wil doen of leren. Mijn blog motiveert me om in beweging te blijven en om het leven niet zomaar voorbij te laten vliegen.
Ik ken persoonlijk mensen wiens hobby het is om games te spelen. Al hun vrije tijd lijkt te worden opslokt door het spelen van spelletjes en daarover praten op fora. Ik hoop dat ik niemand beledig als ik zeg dat dat mij een beetje saai lijkt. Natuurlijk is dat een kwestie van 'point of view', maar ik ben blij dat dat niet mijn hobby is.
Ik ben blij dat is als hobby mag bloggen en producten mag maken die mensen een glimlach op hun gezicht geven. Ik vind het heerlijk hoe dit mijn weken levendig houdt, dat er altijd iets is om naartoe te werken en dat het me uitdaagt om te blijven leren en dingen te doen die ik zonder mijn blog nooit had gedaan.

Doordat ik blog voel ik dat ik leef.

December Diary

 

Happy New Year! But first an overview of the last month:

The month flew by! A month of celebrating and lighting candles in the evening.

There was a lot of meetings with friends & family, craft ideas and deadlines for school.

In the beginning of the month I went to the musical Billy Elliot with my parents which was really fun (besides all the cursing...).

Somewhere half way through the month I even skied down a slope in an indoor snow hall in Germany. 'Unfortunately' there's no pictures of that... I don't think it looked very graceful.

And of course December is the month of Christmas. Early December I decorated my room with lights and ornaments and every night I light candles. Once in a while some hot chocolate, but mostly it's drinking cups of tea under a warm blanket. Playing Christmas songs on Spotify while planning Christmas dinner.

Yes, I know. I'm a Christmas nuthead...

Here's how I enjoyed the most festive month of all.

 



I celebrated Sinterklaas with a friend. I got spoilt with a coloring book, a little recipe book and a chocolate letter.

I also made some clay Christmas ornaments for my Etsy shop. You can still buy them (with a post Christmas discount) here.

One of my favorite places in Utrecht: the Yoghurt Barn. This time I had a yoghurt with banana, chocolate and cocos.

 

And like I said: lots of warm tea in my favorite mug.

 

And OK, some wine for the evenings.

 



 On December 17th I got ready for the first Christmas dinner of this year. My sweet assistant was right by my side to 'help'  me get dressed.

 

I visited the lovely Christmas markets in Utrecht.



 

And this is Utrecht on a non-snowy winter night.

Just before Christmas I went to Primark to shop for an outfit for Christmas. But I came back with bag filled with other clothes. The best buy: this Mickey sweater which is really soft and fluffy!

 



I made some winter decoration for my mom. Very easy to make, all you need is some nylon thread, white fluffy balls and little beads. I glued the beads to the balls with a drop of super glue.



 

And finally it was time for Christmas dinner with my parents. Unfortunately my sister and her hubby couldn't be there. But it still was lovely. I'm really happy with how the decorations turned out!



 

The spinach avocado soup! It was a really nice and fresh start of the dinner.

 



Salmon in puff pastry, mashed potatoes with figs and broccoli (unfortunately the rainbow carrots were out of stock in the supermarket...)

And last week I hung a wooden crate on my wall. Finally some extra space for decoration that my ferret can't reach. :)

 

Crafts: I started on a lace triangle scarf, but that project has been in a bag for a while now. Last week I started a big project: my own crocheted chevron blanket. This one will probably be in the diaries for a few months...
Books: Tuesday's Gone - Nicci French.
Movies/series: Gooische vrouwen, Nanny McPhee, All You Need Is Love. And it's not really a serie or movie, but I watched a lot of Serious Request (a Dutch event where 3 radio dj's are locked in a glass house and don't eat for 6 days. During this time they raise money for a project of the Red Cross).

Favorite moment: any moment with candles, tea or wine and Christmas songs on.

Suckiest moment: falling with my bike because apparently it was slippery...

Gelukkig nieuwjaar! Maar eerst weer een overzichtje van de afgelopen maand.
De maand is weer voorbij gevlogen. Een maand vol feestelijkheen en brandende kaarsjes in de avond.
Er waren veel ontmoetingen met vrienden en familie, creatieve ideeen en deadlines voor school.
In het begin van de maand ging ik met m'n ouders naar de musical Billy Elliot, wat erg leuk was (behalve het vele schelden en vloeken...)
Ergens halverwege de maand skiede ik van een helling af in een indoor sneeuwhal in Duitsland. 'Helaas' zijn daar gen foto's van... Ik denk niet dat het er erg elegant uit heeft gezien.
En natuurlijk was december de maand van kerst. Al vroeg in december hing ik lichtjes en decoratie in mijn kamer en elke avond stak ik wel kaarsjes aan. Zo af en toe wat warme chocolademelk, maar het waren vooral veel koppen warme thee die ik onder een warm dekentje nuttigde. En heerlijk kerstliedjes afspelen op Spotify terwijl ik het kerstdiner plande.
Ja, ik weet het. Ik ben een echte kerst muts.

Dit is hoe ik deze feestelijke maand heb doorgebracht.

• Ik vierde Sinterklaas met een vriendin en werd verwend met en kleurboek, een klein kookboekje en een chocoladeletter.
• Ook maakte ik deze maand kersthangers van klei. Je kunt ze hier nog steeds kopen (met een na-kerst korting!).
• Een van m'n favoriete plekjes in Utrecht: de Yoghurt Barn. Deze keer nam ik yoghurt met banaan, chocola en kokos.
• En zoals ik zal zei: veel warme thee in m'n favoriete mok.
• En OK, soms een wijntje in de avond.
• Op 17 december was al tijd om me klaar te maken voor het eerste kerstdiner van het jaar. Mijn lieve assistente 'hielp' me met aankleden...
• Ik bezocht ook de verschillende kerstmarkten in Utrecht en maakte daarbij mooie plaatjes van Utrecht in de winter (zonder sneeuw helaas).
• Net voor kerst ging ik naar de Primark om daar kleren voor kerst te kopen. Maar ik kwam thuis met een tas gevuld met andere kleren. De leukste koop: deze Mickey trui die heerlijk zacht en aaibaar is.
• Ik maakte ook wat winterse decoratie voor m'n moeder. Het is erg makkelijk te maken, alles wat je nodig hebt is nylonraad, witte balletjes en kleine kraaltjes. Ik maakte de kraaltjes nog aan de balletjes vast met een drupje secondelijm.
• En eindelijk was het tijd voor het kerstdiner met mijn ouders. Helaas konden m'n zusje en haar man er niet bij zijn. Maar we hebben erg genoten. Ik was vooral heel blij met hoe de aankleding van de tafel gelukt was!
• En aan het eind van de maan hing ik dit houten kistje aan de muur op. Eindelijk wat extra decoratie ruimte waar m'n fretje niet bij kan komen.

 

Crafts: Ik ben begonnen aan een kanten driehoeks sjaal, maar die ligt al een tijdje in en tas. Afgelopen week begon ik aan en groot project: mijn eigen gehaakte chevron deken. Dit project zullen jullie nog wel een tijdje in de diaries voorbij zien komen...
Boeken: Tuesday's Gone - Nicci French.
Films/series: Gooische Vrouwen, Nanny McPhee, All You Need Is Love. En 't is niet echt een serie of film, maar ik keek veel Serious Request.

Favoriete moment: elk moment met kaarsjes, thee of wijn en kerstliedjes aan.
Stomste moment:  vallen met de fiets omdat het blijkbaar glad was…
