Turning trends into 'made by you' - Spring edition

Do you also like trends, but hate it that everybody else has exactly the same in their house? Me too!

I love to have my house filled with beautiful decorations, but I don't want to simply follow all trends that are being sold to me in stores all around. I like to make those trendy decorations unique, to make it my own.
I've been looking around at garden and home stores and today I'm gonna show you three Spring trends and how to make them your own. They're all very easy to make yourself, I'll tell you exactly how.
General instructions: Look for a trend that you like and strip it down to how it is made. Then look around in your house or go visit your local thrift store, find the things you need and assemble your own, handmade and unique homedecor.

Lace
I've noticed that there's a lot of laced jars and bottles in the stores. And they're so gorgeous and look great with a candle in it.

To make this your own you need:

  • Cleaned vegetable jars
  • Laced placemat (or just some old lace you've got lying around)
  • Scissors
  • Superglue

How to:
Cut the lace to the size that fits the jar. Put some superglue on the jar and stick the lace to it. (Be carefull to not glue your fingers to the jar!).

Estimated price: €2,00 for two laced jars.

Hanging candle lights

I really liked thos jars with some textile and robe around when I saw them at a gardening store. They look adorable, but kind of pale and basic.

I wanted to make some Easter decoration, so I've chosen to use ribbons with rabbits on it and on pastel yellow ribbon.

To make this your own you need:

  • Cleaned vegatable jars
  • Some textiles and ribbons you have lying around
  • Beads
  • Iron thread
  • Scissors
  • Superglue

How to:
Cut the textile you've chosen to the right size. Stick it to the jar with some superglue.
Wrap a ribbon around the jar.
Make the hanger with the iron thread and already place the beads onto it. Then stick some iron thread through one end of the hanger, wrap the thread around the top of the jar. Stick the other end of the iron thread through the other end of the hanger and twist the two ends of threads together.

Estimated price: €5,00 for three hanging candle lights.

Bottles & ribbons

Another thing I've seen were small bottles with some ribbons hanging around. Very simple and a nice pop of color for your livingroom.

To make this your own you need:

  • Small bottles (vases in your house or from thrift store, cleaned beer bottles)
  • Ribbons
  • Beads
  • Rub-on transfers with lace pattern
  • Scissors

How to:
Choose the ribbons you want to use and wrap them around the neck of the bottle.
Put the ends of the ribbons through the hole of the bead and tie the ribbons to the neck.
To add some extra detail to the bottle I've rubbed on some rub-on transfer lace.

Estimated price: €2,50 for two bottles with ribbons & lace pattern.

As you see, it's very easy to make some small homedecor yourself. It's cheaper and much more fun to do then when you buy something in the store!
