DIY: crochet around a rattle-ball for your pet

Last week it was World Animal Day, a day to give your pet some extra attention.
My ferret is really happy when she gets to play with a rattle ball, but my neighbor below me isn't.
So I've crocheted around them and now she can play all she wants with it!

Let me show you how you can make some for your pet. Or maybe you can make some for your friend's pet.

We'll start with wat you need:
- a rattle ball you want to cover
- a 2,5mm crochet hook and yarn that fits with that.

Used abbreviations:
- sc: single crochet
- ss: slip stitch
- c2tog: crochet 2 together

How to crochet a ball:
- start with a magic loop and crochet 6sc in it. Finish off with 1ss in the first stitch. (6 stitches)
- crochet 2sc in every stitch (12 stitches). Finish with 1ss in the first stitch.
- *crochet 2sc in the first stitch, 1sc in the next*. Repeat *-* till the end of the row (18 stitches). Finish with 1ss in the first stitch.
- *crochet 2sc in the first stitch, 1sc in the next 2*. Repeat *-* till the end of the row (24 stitches). Finish with 1ss in the first stitch.
- *crochet 2sc in the first stitch, 1sc in the next 3*. Repeat *-* till the end of the row (30 stitches). Finish with 1ss in the first stitch.

Now you take the ball and see how it fits into what you've already crocheted. If it's not the right size yet, you keep multiplying. If it's almost halfway, you stop multiplying and crochet a few rows normal (1sc in every stitch).
After you've passed a little over the half of the ball, we'll start to narrow it down as follows:

(- if you've multiplied more than the rows above, you first need to narrow down those rows before you move on below)
- *c2tog, 1sc in the next 3 stitches*. Repeat *-* till the end of the row (24 stitches). Finish with 1ss in the first stitch.
- try to fit you ball into your crochet work and continue to narrow it down around the ball. This is a little hard at first, but try to keep your stitches as tight as possible.
- *c2tog, 1sc in the next 2 stitches*. Repeat *-* till the end of the row (18 stitches). Finish with 1ss in the first stitch.
- *c2tog, 1sc in the next stitch*. Repeat *-* till the end of the row (12 stitches). Finish with 1ss in the first stitch.
- c2tog for all stitches till you have one stitch left. Bind off and your pets ball is ready!

I hope you enjed it.

Gebruikt afkortingen:
- v: vaste
- hv: halve vaste
- 2vs: haak twee vasten samen

(18 steken)
(24 steken)

(18 steken)
