DIY: Decorational Yarn Wrapped Wire Words

What you need:
- Metal wire
- Scissors or tongs
- yarn
- some hobby glue or super glue

Instructions:
1. Bend the wire into the word you want to form (or shape). It doesn't need to be perfect, you can always reshape it later.
2. Wrap the word with the yarn. I wrapped mine twice to make the letters stand out more.
3. Finish it of with a little bow. I glued the bow to make it stay a certain way.
4. Reshape it until all letters are according to your wishes and try to make it flat.

_______________________________________________________

Benodigdheden:
- metaaldraad
- schaar of tang
- wol
- wat hobbylijm of secondelijm

Instructies:

IKEA Hack DIY: Hexagon Boxes

Do you also love those cardboard IKEA boxes?
I do too. I just counted and I have 11 of these boxes in my room!
But they're soooo damn boring!

That's why I created this IKEA Hack DIY to make these boxes fit your interior better.
Check out the steps below to make these boxes yourself!

What you need:
  • IKEA Pappis cardboard boxes
  • Stack of old magazines
  • Thin piece of paper
  • Thick piece of paper/cardboard
  • Laptop/PC/tablet
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Instructions:
1. Get a stack of old magazines and decide which colors you want to use.
2. Make a hexagon mall with thick paper. To do this, search a hexagon of the right size online, put a thin paper on your screen and trace the hexagon. Cut this out and trace it on a piece of thick paper/cardboard. Cut this one out and you have your hexagon mall.
3. Go through the magazines, trace pieces you like and cut them out
4. Stick the hexagons onto the IKEA box. Make sure you put enough (but not too much) glue on the corners of the hexagons.

I hope you enjoyed this DIY.
Do you have other great ideas on how to hack these IKEA boxes, share your ideas in the comments below.

  • IKEA Pappis kartonnen dozen
  • Stapel oude tijdschriften
  • Vel dun papier
  • Vel dik papier/karton
  • Laptop/PC/tablet
  • Potlood
  • Schaar
  • Lijm

Instucties:

DIY Wedding Gifts

Remember how last week my friend Rasa shared how she added personal touches to her wedding?
This week I'm sharing a DIY for a very cute wedding gift: a kissing bride & groom!
It's a great gift to give to the newly weds, maybe with a little note clipped in it.
Or you could give these as a 'thank you'-gift to the guests at your own wedding. That's what these were made for, for the wedding of the sister of my friend Siglinde from SigArt.

Supplies you need
Supplies

  • Cloth pins
  • paint (brown, red, black and white)
  • pencils
  • fabric for the dress and veil
  • scissors
  • superglue

How to
1. Start with painting the dress & suit. It looks best when you also paint the inside of the cloth pins. Let them dry on the ridge of a small bucket.

2. With a small pencil, paint the hairs, bow tie of the groom, lips, eyes and eyebrows. Do this for one side at a time and lay them down to dry. Be very careful with this part, cause it's easy to mess up the detailed lines.

Dry them carefully
3. Take the fabric and cut out the shape of the dress. You can use the picture below as a template. First cut one and try how it looks on one of the cloth pins.

4. Attach the dress to the cloth pin. Add some superglue on the inside of the 'bride' part and fold the fabric in with the back end of a small pencil.

5. Also cut the veil from the fabric. We've used a elongated triangle and cut off the top point. Attach it to the bride with a droplet of superglue on the top.

Let it all dry and there you go. You handmade wedding gift is ready!

Template shape for the fabric dress

Adding the details takes some concentration and non-shaking hands.

Mass production. It takes some time, but the results are amazing!

Benodigdheden
  • Wasknijpers
  • Verf (bruin, rood, zwart en wit)
  • Kwasten
  • Stof voor de jurk en sluier
  • Schaar
  • Secondelijm

How to

Laat 't allemaal rustig drogen en 'there you go'. Je handgemaakte trouwcadeau is klaar!

Inspiration for your handmade wedding

Hey lovely "Stuff to Love" blog readers ;-). I am Rasa from Friendly Nettle and today I will be sharing all about my crafty handmade wedding I had few months ago (can't believe it has been two months already!!). I am like Jacolien, I love making everything handmade to give that extra personal touch and save some money too! This is why I got really excited when I got invited to guest post on this blog.

It all started with the theme and it was marigolds. But I wasn't crazy with marigolds (although people around me did think I am having a marigold fever), I actually loved the contrast between vibrant marigolds and muted main colours. That's just part of my personality! So our wedding colours were: grey, navy, forest green, touch of ivory and... whatever marigold brings (yellow, orange and burgundy). Once your theme and colours are set, everything will follow.

1. INVITES were done by my best friend Vicki (if you were reading my blog, you would have seen I have written so much how amazing she is). I had a design in my head, but only Vicki has the skills to translate it on to the paper. I think I would need lot's of practice to get to that stage!
So, all I did was scanned in her painting (background and flowers separately), combined everything, touched up few blemishes, put up an amazing font that I found online and there we are, it's that simple! Once printed, it was quite simple to assemble, the invites were sent in a day! Just do not forget to include RSVP card (make sure you ask for dietary requirements there) and a gift list details (people will want to bless you, so I think least you can do is help). We tied everything in to the bundle with the cotton yarn, but this is not a must, we just thought it would look pretty!

2. The DRESS. Although that wasn't my focus, I did purchase it first! I bought it from a charity shop with the help from my new sister in law, Nicola (she was so helpful!) and fixed it up. My whole outfit ended up costing me only £156.09! Read on here on how I did that ;-).

3. MY SHOES were also slightly edited. I found a basic grey (main wedding colour) suede court shoes that I still wear today and pinned a ribbon flower brooch on it that I made myself! Check it out, very cool project to do if you are looking for a simple accessory not only for shoes ;-).

4. The BRIDESMAID DRESSES were inspired by this pic that I once came across in this blog post with the advice for a Maid Of Honour (sadly can't find it anymore). This pic had all the bridesmaids in the group all dressed in different summer dresses. So what I did was I designed and made two simple dresses in light fabric using two of the main colours (those were two of my projects: Nicola Dress and Wrap Dress).  Anna had her own dress, so I only needed to extend it's length (click here to learn how) to make it match with the other dresses. The great thing is that everything together costed only £59.92! Ok, I did spend some time, but it was worth it as it was all custom made :-).

5. CONFETTI, quite many people forget this! I think this is essential when making dramatic photos when you exit the church. You can even match it to your wedding colours! I even made confetti cone crate to encourage everybody to participate in confetti throwing. Many relatives were also very happy to help with the flower drying marathon! So, yes, really worth making this.

6. SEATING CHART DESIGN. When it comes to big events this is essential, otherwise we would have plenty of confused guests looking where they are supposed to sit. We decided to make ours look like part of the decoration. Click here to see how I made it in detail.

7. FAVOURS can serve a double duty. Marigold pots, that I painted as well, were part of decoration as well as little gifts to the guest. I posted once on my blog how I paint my own terracotta pots to make them custom made. By now the majority of my plants are potted in uniquely decorated pots!

8. TABLE SETTING. I actually made up a mock up table setting on how I wanted the tables to look like. This has been quite useful, not only for myself to see a bigger picture but also for others involved on the day. Our table setting included light grey table linen, name flags wrapped around each napkin (matching seating chart design), candles in the navy ribbon jars, marigold pots, table numbers (matching original invite) and not forgetting the essentials such as plates, wine glasses, knife and forks.

9. The WEDDING CAKE was baked by a family friend, Kathryn. I am a really big fan of so called 'naked' cakes. This is because I prefer a natural look, rather then overdecorated heavily iced cakes. We were lucky to be able to use our wedding flowers on the cake, because marigolds are actually edible! I am really pleased with the result!

10. ENTERTAINMENT is last, but not least. As soon as we got engaged I have decided to hire Ceilidh band, this is what made me choose a barn for the venue! License to Ceilidh were actually a band that we had on on our first date!

Other than evening entertainment, we involved our guests into meat carving. We got aprons and the hats to make our VIP guests feel extra special and they got to keep their outfit too!

When it comes to outdoor games, we really wanted those giant board games that I have seen in some weddings. But after thinking outside the box we decided to ask everybody to bring their own board games. This was really fun and did not cost us a penny!

I hope you enjoyed and feel inspired by my post, be sure to visit me sometimes at Friendly Nettle!

________________________________________________________________

Hey leuke “Stuff to Love” bloglezers ;-).

10.    ENTERTAINMENT is last, but not least.

Please meet: Citlalli from Sew Beastly

Do you want me to introduce you to a blogger & shopowner I love? If yes, then keep reading. If not, please keep reading too, because I'm sure you'll love her.

Please meet: Citlalli Sanchez from Dallas (TX).
Owner from 'Sew Beastly' the blog & webshop.

She learned how to sew back in December 2010 and that's where she fell in love with it. And ever since she's been making these great products that she sells in her webshop.
Citlalli makes and sells all different kinds of bags: clutches, totes, wristlets, pouches. Almost all featuring her signature textured ruffles that really make the fabric and the bag come alive. This, and the use of different fabrics, is what makes her products become true to her brandname: 'Sew Beastly', handmade with beastly love. The bags are feminine and elegant, but they're not all over girly girly. You can take these bags anywhere, not only to your prom night or your bf's wedding.

And all of this is made with salvaged, repurposed and/or organic materials, lined with a layer made from recycled plastic bottles and sent to your doorstep in biodegradable packaging. So it's as environmetally friendly as you could wish for a bag! I always love it when people think about the environment.
A little while ago I've ordered my own wristlet from her shop and I am soooooo happy with it! It really exceeded my expectations. I love taking it with me and I'm almost parading it around, haha! (I bought the one on the right bottom in the collage, nice right?).

Another great thing is that Citlalli also has a blog! This is a place where she shares things she loves, DIY's, inspiration, all about her handmade dream 'Sew Beastly', great links on blogging, social media, creativity & other great stuff and occasionaly she shares a post straight from her heart.
I always love reading about how she made (and still makes) her dreams come true and all the things that passed her on that path.

So, that's who I wanted to you to meet. Isn't she great?
And as a cherry on top of the cake, she's provided a discount code for all of you to get 15% discount on your order from her shop! Isn't that sweet and generous?!?
So go run there, pick out your favorite (or favorites) and use the code JCLNLUV at checkout! The code is valid untill April 20th 1.00 am, EDT (New York).
 Enjoy shopping, what's your favorite?

Getting into Christmas mood

Christmas time is creeping closer and closer. And guess what: I love it!
Although it comes with cold weather, I love lighting candles in my house and feeling warm inside.

The last couple of days I've been working on making 6 sets of Christmas Cards. They're made of mostly paper, washi tape and here and there some sequins, a cord and a charm.
Yesterday I finished them and today I've photographed all cards and added them to my shop.
Here's a sneakpeak of 2 sets.
You can see all sets of Christmas Cards here in my shop.

My knitted pillowcase

Just a short message.
Today I've finished my knitted pillowcase.
It's quite simple, but I like how it turned out.
What do you think?

___________________________________________________________________

Even een kort berichtje.
