Making it your own

Starting my own webshop and wanting to take my blog to the next level, really got me thinking a lot.
Of course about the shop and blog itself, but mainly I've been questioning myself 'why do I want this?' and 'what makes me unique and gives me the right to do this?'. Quite hard questions when you're not so confident yourself. I don't have a very clear answer yet to those questions, but I have a start. And I also think it's something that will and should evolve with the time.
I think, for me, the main reason why I'm blogging here, is because I like to share my creativity with the world. I want to share the things that I make and the things I like, in the hope of giving inspiration to others. And as for the webshop, I like to craft things and hope that I can make other people happy with it too. (and because I don't want to stuff my house with piles and piles of knittings and other craftsy stuff).
What also passed my mind, is that lately I've been making things to decorate my home. I like to make things myself and put it in my house, to really make the house feel as my home and to really make it my home. That comes from me not really liking mass-produced things. And here I immediately have to confess that I do have a lot of Ikea-things in my house, furniture and stuff. And I do like it, but it doesn't make my house my home. And buying mass-produced decorational items are also not doing the trick for me. I found out that I like to get creative and make some stuff for my house with my own hands.
So in some way, besides sharing my creativity with the world, I'm also rebelling against mass-production and I'm hoping to inspire people to take the 2 hands you have and go make something with it for your house (or buy it in my Etsy-shop ;) ).

Het opzetten van een eigen webshop en m'n blog naar een volgend niveau willen tillen, heeft me best wel aan het denken gezet. Uiteraard over de shop en blog zelf, maar vooral ook ben ik mezelf gaan afvragen 'waarom wil ik dit?' en 'wat maakt mij uniek en geeft mij het recht om dit te doen?'. Best lastige vragen als je zelf niet zo stevig in je schoenen staat. Ik heb geen heel helder antwoord op deze vragen, maar ik heb een begin. En daarbij denk ik ook dat antwoorden op zulke vragen zich zouden moeten blijven ontwikkelen in de loop der tijd.
Ik denk dat, voor mij, de belangrijkste reden waarom ik hier blog, is omdat ik graag mijn creativiteit met de wereld wil delen. Ik wil graag de dingen delen die ik maak en die ik leuk vind, in de hoop dat ik anderen kan inspireren. En wat betreft de webshop, ik hou ervan om creatief bezig te zijn en hoop dat ik anderen blij kan maken met de dingen die ik maak. (en omdat ik geen huis vol wil met bergen en bergen van breisels en andere creatieve uitspattingen).
Wat me ook in gedachten kwam, is dat ik de afgelopen tijd vooral dingen heb gemaakt om m'n huis op te vrolijken. Ik vind 't leuk om zelf dingen te maken en ze in m'n huis te zetten, om m'n huis als thuis te laten voelen en om het echt thuis te laten zijn. Dat komt een beetje af van dat ik 't niet zo heb op massa-geproduceerde dingen. Hier moet ik meteen opbiechten dat ik best wel wat Ikea-dingen heb, meubels enzo. En ik vind het ook leuk, maar 't maakt mijn huis niet mijn thuis. En het kopen van massa-geproduceerde decoratieve items helpt mij daar niet bij. Ik heb geleerd dat ik het leuk vind om creatief bezig te gaan en zelf iets te maken voor mijn huis met mijn eigen handen.
Dus op een bepaalde manier, naast het delen van mijn creativiteit met de wereld, ben ik ook aan het 'protesteren' tegen massa-productie en hoop ik dat ik mensen kan isnpireren om met de 2 handen die ze hebben zelf iets te maken voor hun huis (of om iets te kopen in mijn Etsy-shop ;) ).

The Giftcard-dilemma

You probably recognize this.
You need to buy a gift for a birthday or any other kind of celebration, but you don’t know what to buy. Flowers or a bottle of wine are boring and a giftcard is not so fun to give either. If you give one, you feel unoriginal and as if you didn’t put any effort in the gift. It’s a standard thing you buy, even though these days you can even choose between different prints on the card… It’s nothing personal, but you want to give a personal gift.

I had this too a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to give a giftcard to someone who was moving to another house, but lately I’m not so keen on giving something standard and mass-produced.

After a little thinking I did buy the card, but decided to get creative and give it a personal twist. I’ve made a little giftcard-holder from some paper and a little ribbon. In that way it’s original, personal (I wrote a message inside the paper) and unique.

I really like the outcome and thought maybe other people have this ‘problem’  too. So now I’ve made some stock of it and you can buy it in my JCLN Etsy-shop. Every giftcard-holder is different and unique and you can make it personal with a message inside of it.

And remember: nobody likes to give a giftcard, but everybody like to receive one!

I'm SO excited about this!
As some of you might know, I had a little webshop before. But that didn't really fit my needs and wishes.
I've researched and finally concluded that Etsy is THE best place to give my creative business-aspirations a go. It's a place where handmade, vintage and craft supplies are sold by creative entrepreneurs. It comes with a community of all those little shops, so it's a great place for me to learn about selling your own makings.
There's not much in the shop yet, but more will be added soon. I've got many ideas in my head for this, but I won't tell you all. I'm thinking of bookmarkers, maybe knitted hats.

Mijn nieuwe, frisse, fruitige en knusse Etsy-shop!

Ik ben zo enthousiast hierover!
Zoals sommigen van jullie misschien weten, had ik al eerder een klein webshopje. Maar dat voldeed niet geheel aan mijn wensen.
Ik heb een beetje online gesnuffeld en ben uiteindelijk tot de conclusie gekomen dat Etsy DE beste plek is voor mijn creatieve shop-aspiraties een kans te geven. Etsy is een site waar handgemaakte dingen, vintage en knutselspullen worden verkocht door creatieve ondernemers. Er zit een gemeenschap bij van al deze kleine winkeltjes, en dus is het een geweldige plek voor mij om te leren over het verkopen van je eigen maaksels.
Er is not niet veel te koop in m'n winkeltje, maar er zullen snel nieuwe items te vinden zijn. Ik heb heel veel ideeën in m'n hoofd hiervoor, maar ik ga niet alles verklappen. Ik wil graag boekenleggers maken en ga misschien gebreide mutsen verkopen.

Spring is in the air!

How lovely is it when Spring comes in! It's great to see those first sunbeams break through the clouds and you just know that those short, dark and cold days of winter will be gone soon. It makes you feel warm at heart and joyfull all over, doesn't it?

Some people start cleaning every corner of their house, I did something else.

It's the follow up from a picture in a post earlier this year. I had this idea in mind since probably a year and a half, but since Spring made it's first call I thought I had to finally execute the idea. I went to my attic and took down the two tree trunk that had been drying there all that time. I hung them in front of my window and started decorating it with 'all things Spring' that I could find in my home.

It's very easy to make for yourself. Just go out into a forest of a park on a nice sunny day, walk around for a bit and look for some nice branches or tree trunks you'd like to hang in your home. Take 'm in, let them dry for a while (if needed anyways with the wonderful weather that's about to come) and hang them in the place you like. When that's done, just dive into your closets where you stack loads and loads of decorational stuff you actually never use (yes, that's how it works with me...). Pick out the pieces you want to use and think of how you want to arrange everything. Then fix those things with nice gift-wrap-ribbons or just simply use a little drop of glue. And when you're done, sit down in the room and be proud of yourself and enjoy your creation!

But as always, there comes an end to Spring unfortunately. You don't need to throw everything away, just stack it back into your closets and look for other things you'd like to expose now. You can stick to the seasons or you can make it with a theme, just let your imagination speak.

Hoe heerlijk is het wanneer het lente wordt! Het is fantastisch om de eerste zonnestralen door de wolken te zien breken en simpelweg te weten dat die korte, donkere en koude dagen snel voorbij zullen zijn. 't Geeft je een warm gevoel in je hart en gewoon heerlijk vreugdevol, niet?
Sommige mensen gaan dan hun hele huis schoonmaken, maar ik deed iets anders.

Dit is in opvolging op een foto uit een eerder geplaatste post dit jaar. Ik had dit idee al zo'n anderhalf jaar in m'n hoofd, maar sinds de lente z'n eerste roep maakte dacht ik dat ik dit eindelijk eens moest uitvoeren. Ik ben naar m'n zolder gegaan en heb de twee boomstammen die al die tijd hebben gedroogd, mee naar beneden genomen. Ik heb ze voor m'n raam gehangen en begon ze op te vrolijken met allerlei lente-dingen die ik in m'n huis kon vinden.

Je kunt dit thuis heel makkelijk zelf maken. Ga op een zonnige dag naar een bos of een park, loop er lekker rond en zoek een paar takken die je leuk of mooi vindt. Neem ze mee, laat ze een tijdje drogen (als dat al nodig is met het mooie weer dat eraan zit te komen) en hang ze op waar je wilt. Als dat klar is, duik dan in je kasten waar je ladingen en ladingen aan decoratiespullen bewaart die je eigenlijk nooit gebruikt (ja, zo werkt dat bij mij...). Kies de spullen uit die je wilt gebruiken en bedenk you je ze wilt plaatsen. Maak ze dan vast met een leuk cadeaulintje of met een simpel drupje lijm. En als je klaar bent, ga lekker zitten, wees trots op jezelf en geniet van je creatie!

Maar zoals altijd, er komt helaas een einde aan de lente. Je hoeft dan niet alles meteen weg te gooien, stop je lentedecoratie weer terug in je kast en kijk daar nog 'ns rond voor andere leuke dingen die je nu tentoon wilt stellen. Je kunt je richten op de seizoenen, maar je kunt ookvoor een thema kiezen. Laat je verbeelding spreken!
